Skyhawks Bounce Back
by Jace Watts
Skyhawks crushed Wayne 41-14 on September 4th, at Wayne High School.
The opener the Skyhawks had against Chapmanville ended with them being blown out 34-0. However, they
were able to bounce back with a big win against Wayne.
Nick Elkins, Scott High School’s kicker and second-string safety, had some encouraging words after the performance.
“We are feeling pretty good after the big win, and I think we have a lot of good things coming
for us this season,” Elkins said.
This week the Skyhawks play at home against Sissonville. Most suspect it to be a pretty close
game, since the teams seem even skill-wise. There have also been past conflicts with Scott and
Sissonville, so students at the school are especially hyped up for the game
“We can’t let up; we just have to keep fighting the whole game. I think we will come out on
top,” Elkins said. “Us as players just have to focus on the game and not past things. We have to
bring intensity no matter what and just focus on the game plan.”
Another factor in the game is the student section, band, and cheerleaders. Bralin Loftus, tenor drum player of
Scott High’s band says cheering and noise can affect both teams in positive and negative ways.
“If our band is playing as loud as possible, and the cheerleaders are cheering loud then our
players can feed off that and play well,” Loftus said. “Now if both of us are not, then that could
affect our team in a negative way.”
Scott High is looking to get on a winning streak with the game this Friday. Bouncing back from
that horrendous week one loss was good, but they want to keep the ball rolling.
“I think our guys will get this win. Sissonville looks to be pretty decent this year, but I think we
will come out on top in a close battle,” Loftus said.
