The Super Bowl
As we start to enter the middle of January, we also enter the playoffs of the NFL. And at the end of it all is the super bowl.
First implemented in 1966, the Super Bowl is one of the most popular sports events of the year as football is 74.5% the most popular sport in America.
Originally called the AFL – NFL world championship it was a game to pit the two best teams in football together as the American football league (AFL) and national football leagues (NFL) were originally two separated leagues before they joined as one in 1966 and the super bowl was created.
The first ever super bowl saw the Green Bay Packers and Kansas City Chiefs duke it out in the grass with Green Bay ultimately becoming the first Super Bowl winners. They would go on along with other teams to win multiple more as the years went by however two other teams the New England Patriots and the Pittsburgh Steelers are credited as the most winningest teams in the super bowl both with 6 wins.
Other than being the most important football game of the year, it is known for many other things. Such things like the halftime shows and commercials. The commercials are mostly self-explained as when the super bowl game started being televised more people could watch the game and brands took note and started airing fancy commercials tied to the super bowl as super bowl day commercials to help them and the NFL.
And the halftime shows were shows put on by bands and performers during halftime when teams wouldn’t be playing. Did you know that the NFL doesn’t pay performers or bands to play in the halftime show?
