Cosmic Album Review

Red Velvet made their comeback in June 2024 with Cosmic, their 7th mini-album, after a 7-month break following Chill Kill in November 2023. The mini-album includes the title track “Cosmic” along with five other tracks, each offering something different. In September 2024, they re-released the album with the special single “Sweet Dream” to celebrate their 10th anniversary of being together as a group. From the start, Cosmic feels like a classic Red Velvet album, fitting their usual style. The title track, “Cosmic,” is a great example of their unique style.

Lyrically, Cosmic touches on ideas of dreams and personal growth. The title track talks about navigating life while “Sweet Dream” (the special anniversary track) adds a nostalgic feeling to the album. Overall, the album blends fantasy with real-life emotions. The music video for the title track of this album draws inspiration from the 2019 horror film Midsommar, which is a film about an American couple who were drawn into a cult in Sweden. In the video, the members of Red Velvet are seen in a bright setting filled with flowers, wearing white dresses and flower crowns, similar to the imagery in Midsommar. They participate in group dances and rituals that show similarities to the film. Some fans noticed these similarities and had mixed reactions. While some appreciated the artistic approach, others felt it was too close to the original film.

The other songs on the album offer a variety of vibes. Some tracks are upbeat and fun, while others slow things down with calmer moods. The mix of sounds makes the whole album feel balanced and keeps you interested.
