New and Seeking National Certification
Ms. Ashleigh Garrett has been the art teacher at Scott High School for some time now, and she has also worked at other schools from K-12.
She teaches many forms of art, such as painting, arts and crafts, graphic arts, and many more, throughout the eight hours of the day. But she is not only a teacher; she is also a mother to her almost two-year-old son, and she sometimes brings him to school with her on some days. Ms. Garrett has won many awards during her years of teaching.
“Yes, absolutely. She is an amazing teacher and goes out of her way for her students. She makes sure everyone is on the same page as her, and she puts everything into teaching them the stuff at hand,” Scott High School senior, Desiree Lewis said.
Lewis said that Ms. Garrett takes care of her students and makes sure that they are comfortable and safe. She uses hands-on, which is a good thing because some people learn better hands-on.
This school year, Garrett is working to become certified by the National Board for Professional Teaching Standards. The National Board is a nonprofit organization that develops and maintains a voluntary system to certify teachers who meet high standards of teaching practice. The benefits include increased earnings, leadership opportunities, and recognition as a highly qualified teacher. Teachers must become recertified every five years.
