Vie by Doja Cat Review
by Chase Deckard
Vie is the fifth studio album by the American rapper and singer Doja Cat, released on September 26, 2025, by Kemosabe and RCA Records. Primarily a Funk-pop album with elements of hip-hop, pop rap, R&B, dance pop, and disco. It features Doja Cat’s return to pop, with themes of “love and romance”, and is 1980s-inspired, as it marks Doja’s first pop-driven album in four years, after Planet Her (2021). It was recorded in a three-year period at Miraval Studios, based in Correns, France. The album’s lead single, “Jealous Type”, was released on August 21, 2025, followed by a music video the next day. The album tracks “Gorgeous” and “Stranger” also received music videos.
This album, for me, was the best full-length album release of 2025. It was so amazing to see Doja try this 1980-inspired concept. Considering how much I loved Scarlet and Planet Her, I had very high hopes; this album did not disappoint. On my first listen to the album, I already understood what concept Doja went for and how great she pulled it off. I will never
understand people who say this album does not feel like Doja.
Some of my favorite tracks include Acts of Service, Happy, and Couples Therapy. These tracks included Doja keeping the 80’s vibe but also rapping in some verses, which I loved. Acts of Service reminded me of one of her previous hits, Agora Hills, which has been in my top-streamed songs since it came out. In conclusion, this album is amazing and experimental, Doja sounds great and remains my favorite female rap artist.
