Taking the ACT and SAT is a major step when planning for college. These tests measure your college readiness and figure out whether you are ready for higher education. The ACT/SAT tests are important for college admissions, and they offer scholarship opportunities as well. Your scores can greatly benefit your future, so it is important to know what you are doing when approaching these challenging assessments. Luckily, many tips and tricks are available to help you get the scores you want.

First, familiarize yourself with the details. Understanding the structure of the test will save you a significant amount of time on test day. The ACT and SAT have different structures. Study both test structures to decide which test is the right fit for you.

Preparing for the ACT/SAT requires a lot of practice. Set time aside to take real, full-length practice tests. You will eventually get accustomed to the time limits and be able to skillfully pace yourself on each test.

Try to memorize several types of problems while taking the tests, especially in the math section. The SAT exam lists some formulas for you at the front of each math section, but the ACT exam does not. It is important that you know all basic math formulas and concepts. Once you begin memorizing the problems, you should be able to reduce time you spend on a question. ACT/SAT prep apps are available if you want to study on the move. These are also useful for tracking your progress.

The final large piece of advice is to increase your vocabulary and reading skills. Sections on the tests will challenge your reading skills. If you practice reading and understanding challenging books and articles, you are sure to increase test scores. If you come across words that are unfamiliar, keep track of them and look up their meaning. Not only will this help you on test day, but it will help you throughout your life.

After surveying ten students, four out of the ten stated they preferred taking the ACT over the SAT, while the other six favored the SAT. The number is fairly divided, showing that one test is not necessarily easier than the other. It is recommended to take both tests to find which is your best fit. If the scores are drastically different on each test, that should tell you which test is the one for you.

There are many test prep. resources available such as tutoring specifically for the ACT/SAT and Khan Academy. Using the tips listed above and give yourself plenty of time to study so that you can confidently face the tests head-on!
