Risk of E- Cigarettes
E – cigarettes or vapes are dangerous for adults, teens, and children. 99% of E– cigarettes contain a harmful substance called nicotine. An E – cigarette is a small electric device that heats liquid to produce the nicotine to come out and create smoke. E– cigarettes have a battery, heating element, and a place to hold the liquid. They come in many different shapes, sizes, colors, and flavors. Some E– cigarettes may look like a pipe, cigar, or just a regular cigarette. Some E-cigarettes can also look like everyday items. For example, like a pen or USB flash drive. There are larger systems like “mods” or tank systems, but they do not look like other tobacco products. E- cigarettes are known by many different names. “Vapes,” “vape pen,” “mods,” and other names. E- cigarettes can be used to deliver marijuana and other drugs. When hitting an E- cigarette, it is commonly called vaping. E- cigarettes are unsafe for adults, teens, and kids because of the nicotine inside. Some E- cigarettes do not claim to hold nicotine in them or disclose that it contains it on the packaging. But it has been found that nicotine is still contained in them. The human brain develops until you are around 25 years old. Having a habit of smoking/vaping in the adolescent age will harm your developing brain. It harms the parts of your brain that control learning, attention, mood, and impulse control. When a new memory or skill is learned, stronger connections are built between the brain cells. Young people’s brains move faster than an adult’s brain. Nicotine will change that though. When a person is addicted and dependent on vaping, and they stop they will have nicotine withdrawals. Their brain will have to get used to not having any nicotine anymore. Nicotine withdrawal symptoms include restlessness, feeling anxious or depressed, irritability, problems concentrating, trouble with sleeping, the having a bad craving for nicotine. Some people turn to nicotine to try to deal with stress and depression. But nicotine is a source of stress. Youth E- cigarette and cigarette use can be associated with mental health symptoms. Quitting nicotine or never starting would be the best option for you. Withdrawal symptoms fade over time as long as you stay quit and will help you improve your mental health.
