In 2023 there had been an interesting concept that came up, the famous mickey mouse going into the public domain. The Copyright Term Extension Act which had made it so that copyright last 95 years was expiring soon for the famous cartoon, steamboat willie which was mickey mouse’s first appearance.

The Walt Disney corporation had tried earning back the copy right back to them by creating merchandise and shorts around the black and white mouse, but this didn’t work, and he is the public’s arms. This is very monumental as the company who is very tight on preserving their characters have lost their most beloved one to copyright a similar event had happened early 2023 as the character whine the pooh had entered who as well is also a beloved character, causing for the strange release of whine the pooh, blood and honey.

This does not mean you can use the modern mickey mouse as this only applies to the version from steamboat willie (as pictured below). Like whine, mickey already has a new horror film coming soon called mickey’s mouse trap and a new unnamed horror movie about him.
