Amelia Earhart’s plane might have been found

On July 2, 1937, the world-famous Amelia Earhart was declared legally dead after hours of searching in the southwest of the Pacific Ocean. Nobody ever knew what happened to her plane or her body until today.

On January 27, 2024, claims from Deep Sea Vision that they had found Amelia’s long lost plane at the bottom of the ocean. With an Instagram post showing a similar plane to Earhart’s plane (a Lockheed 10-E Electra) in the same place she was theorized to have disappeared in the first place. Using a Kongsberg Discovery HUGIN 6000 and a crew of 16 people, they scanned 5,200 square miles of ocean floor when at square mile 4,877 at 16,000 ft. They found a crashed plane, one that might have belonged to Amelia Earhart.

Although the sonar image is like her plane, experts believe it resembles more of an old naval plane. Evidence of her body has been found near Nikumaroro Island where bones were found with high matchings to her DNA. Experts also say there needs to be more evidence to prove its plane, a sonar image is not enough evidence and there must be at least some images of the plane.
