One Small Step For Man, One Giant Leap For… Womankind?

On April 15 at around 9:30 in the morning, a group of six female celebrities took a trip to the Kármán line, the boundary between Earth’s atmosphere and outer space.

The crew consisted of Gayle King, Katy Perry, Lauren Sanchez, Aisha Bowe, Amanda Nguyen, and Kerianne Flynn. These women are considered to be roles models among the younger generation of females across the globe.

The journey took off in Van Horn, Texas. The journey lasted around roughly ten minutes.

Many people have mixed feelings about the feat. While some believe it was a large step for womankind, others believe it was pointless and served no significant purpose.

I myself, believe that it was unnecessary. There are so many issues in America right now that require more dire attention than sending six celebrities to the edge of Earth’s atmosphere.

While the total cost of the Blue Origin Flight has not been released, an average flight to space costs well over $90 million!

Think of all the things the United States could do with $90 million! I can think of many things: housing for the homeless, food for the hungry, shelter for the cold, and much more.

There are many people that believe the launch was faked. While I don’t believe this, it’s still a rising theory among people in the U.S.

What do you think? Was the flight necessary, or just something to merely add to a history book?
