Student Experience Sickness

Scott High School just started its newest school year, and there are already viruses going around like rhino, colds, COVID, stomach viruses, and allergies.
Bryson Miller, a student at Scott High School, got sick sometime right after summer ended and started the school year.
“I felt really mad because I hate being sick”, Miller said
Miller ended up going to the hospital and was diagnosed with a stomach virus. Miller says it lasted about two weeks. Whenever he was at the hospital, he had to stay overnight, which he says was “awful.”
“It sucked I had to stay overnight. I don’t like going to the hospital at all; even worse, I felt so sick,” Miller said.
For his treatment, Miller drank Pedialyte and had a morphine IV drip in his arm. He says the treatment went well since he felt better shortly after the hospital visit.
Alisia Spry, Scott High School and Ramage Elementary School nurse, said she has heard of all the viruses going around. She encourages very good hand hygiene, coughing into your elbow, and staying home if you are too sick to come to school.
“Washing your hands with soap and water is a good way to keep away germs,” said Spry
Spry says that if a sink with soap and water is unavailable, hand sanitizer is a good option. She says if someone came to school sick, she could send them home if they are sick enough.
“When checking if a student is bad enough to go home, I usually check for symptoms like uncontrolled coughing, sore throat, or even vomit,” said Spry
Scott High School Junior, Mavrick Brown just came back to school after the summer break, and he says he has already felt sick.
He said it all started about a week ago. Brown says he was feeling symptoms of a cold and went to the doctor. Brown was diagnosed with the rhinovirus.
“I had a runny nose, my throat was sore, and I was losing my voice. I felt bad because I was so sick”, Brown said.
Brown ended up taking Tylenol and Claritin. He says he had plenty of rest and slept most of the days during his absence.
“I drank tons of water to wash out the sickness,” Brown said.
