Teacher Feature – Melanie Wilson-Quisenberry

Mrs. Melanie Quisenberry is the Business Education teacher at Scott High School. She says the reason she initially started teaching was that she had an interest in education.

“Education was something I thought I may want to do at some point, so I selected that,” Quisenberry said.

She also stated that she has three college degrees.

“I have associates in paralegal studies, bachelor’s in business administration, and a master’s in education,” Quisenberry said.

Quisenberry said she loved teaching all grades at Scott High School.

“I often have all the grades smooshed together in classes and there is something I enjoy about each of them. I really enjoy that my job allows me to watch these kids grow and develop across their high school career,” Quisenberry said.

Quisenberry says favorite subject differs, but she loved teaching Scott’s civics class.

“I loved teaching civics, but I also really enjoy Personal Finance and Business Law because both contain such good information for students,” Quisenberry said.

If Mrs. Quisenberry could teach any class, she says she already teaches it.

“I already do – Personal Finance. It’s like Adulting 101, and is so important for kids to understand that content before they go out into the world,” Quisenberry said.

Quisenberry’s piece of wisdom to her students would be to do what interests you.

“Pursue your curiosities and don’t stress about what you think other people are saying about that course,” Quisenberry said.

Quisenberry says she enjoys teaching. She just doesn’t like having to wake up so early.

“I love teaching. I regret it only when my alarm goes off in the morning. Once I’ve had some coffee and get going, I’m good,” Quisenberry said.

Quisenberry says the worst thing about being a teacher at Scott High School is having to report to school so early.

“7 a.m. report time! Yuck,” Quisenberry said.

If Quisenberry couldn’t be a teacher, her dream job would be an interior designer.

Mrs. Quisenberry doesn’t eat school lunch at Scott High School, but she always gets a pumpkin pie on Thanksgiving dinner day.
